Cal Bruton, OAM knows how basketball can transform the lives of people.  Seeing how Basktball can enrich peoples lives across two continents, Cal aims to pass that knowledge on to the next generation of ballers.

As the former NBL General Manager Bill Palmer noted in the foreword to Cal’s 1991 autobiography: Cal has done as much as any other person in raising public awareness of basketball [In Australia] – and nobody can take that away from him.

Some 30 years later, the Bruton name is firmly entrenched in the fabric of the Australian National Basketball League. Cal set the trail for imported sportsmen entering Australian Professional Sport when he touched down to play with the Brisbane Bullets in the inaugural 1979 NBA Season. As a Point Guard, Cal dominated the league in points scored that year, adding a League MVP award the following.

Bringing ‘Showtime’ Basketball to Australian courts, Cal’s career with The Brisbane Bullets, Geelong Supercats, Perth Wildcats, Hobart Devils, and Canberra Cannons has left a sizeable impression on Australian basketball.

2021 has been a great year for Cal. Starting with an OAM in January for services to basketball, he’s excited to launch the Bruton Basketball Foundation (BBF) and its Basketball 4 Life program. Cal cannot wait to continue giving back to the Australian basketball community!
